The Register is reporting that Windows 7 phones are doing the exact same thing.CNET originally reported the location tracking in a story published this past Monday along with reports that similar ‘data transmitting’ is happening with Google’s Android iOS.
Microsoft says the data they collect is only temporarily stored, whereas Apple’s data is stored for years, and has been being used by Police at their leisure. Where Apple’s stored data acts as a digital snitch, Microsoft says they have no such intentions. Android also says info is only temporarily stored on their networks. Neither has said if the data is stored on the handset either.Microsoft does imply that you can turn the data transmission off, by turning off the location services. None of us here have a Windows phone so we can’t say that it’s true.
All 3 companies are still smelling like roses, compared to the PSN Breach fiasco.
