In my quest to find a good iPad game, I’d nearly given up.Most games are re-hashes of already tired FaceBook games.There is no excitement in them, no innovation, just a game created by developers attempting to capitalize on the easy money to be made on the Apple App Store.All hope was lost with the exception of a few gems, like Pocket Frogs, but that’s for another review.
I happened to stumble upon a MMOFPS called High Noon. I know you’re thinking just what I did...WTH?The game places you in the role of a cowboy in the old west.You live and die by the code “be the quickest gun and you‘ll live”.The game is really made for the iPhone but works just fine with the iPad (just be careful not to drop or toss your iPad while drawing).Simply put you go up against other players around the world, seeing who is the best shot and the quickest draw.Drawing on the sensitivity of the iPhone/iPad you tilt it down and wait for the countdown to begin.Once the countdown is done, you bring your phone/iPad up as quickly as possible and attempt to shoot your opponent.This is easier than it sounds.If you shied away from the motion controls of the Wii, this will be an extremely difficult game to master, as it draws heavily on your hand eye co-ordination.Line up your shot and then try to shoot your opponent, who strafes back and forth as they try to take you out.The guns lend an air of realism in that you’ll only have so many shots before you have to reload. And it’s not as simple as clicking the reload button.The screen will tilt down, your gun, with the barrel open will fill your screen and you will literally have to tap each chamber to load the bullets. Of course the other guy is still shooting at you while you’re reloading so you’ll have to be quick.
Once you’ve taken down the other girl or guy you’ll earn the money from the bounty placed on their head.You also have the option to steal money from them and hope they don’t notice. If you do, you’ll have to pay a hefty fine to the local sheriff and most likely earn yourself a place on their s**t list. Yes that’s actually what it’s called.If you’re a trash talker, you have the option of sending them a telegram and tell them how you’re going to crush them next time. You have the option of purchasing upgrades for your weapon and even purchasing a loader for your gun.Clothing adds extra protection, lessening the damage you take on or making your aim a little better.The game also looks for people in your geographical area to have a shoot out with or take on the world if you think you’re just that much of a badass.This should help settle the score between you and your girlfriends as to who is a better shot.It also makes for good fun during a girls night because it’s so easy on the purse.It is in fact FREE to DL and play.That means extra cosmos all around!
